My name is Laura England and I offer psychotherapy and counselling services to adults and adolescents experiencing a variety of personal challenges. My practice is run out of an office in Centertown, Ottawa, Ontario.
I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling from the University of Ottawa and I am a Registered Psychotherapist. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I’m currently completing the Graduate Diploma in Couples Counselling and Spirituality at Saint Paul’s University. In addition, I am currently in the process of being certified in Brené Brown’s Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™
My philosophy of practice stems from strength-based, and client-centered perspectives. Some individuals benefit from a structured style of therapy and others prefer a more exploratory approach, therefore I customize my approach to meet the unique needs of my clients.
I work from an integrative perspective, incorporating a number of elements from several evidence-based therapies, such as Wholehearted Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness.
My process is gentle yet direct, practical and solution oriented. My aim is to provide support, compassion, empathy and curiosity, so you can begin to gain a new level of insight and from there, move that insight into action and change.
The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. The method was designed for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organizational leaders. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings. During the process facilitators explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness. Participants are invited to examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding them back and identify the new choices and practices that will move them toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.
